Even if I've just taken him out 10 min earlier. What can I do to get him to stop or convince him that going outside is the best thing to do? Please help.

First, make sure that you completely remove any stains or smells from the rug.

Then, you'll have to start reinforcing his house training. At his age, dogs are going through a period (similar to the teenage years) when they are going to try and test their limits.

Start going outside with him and do not let him in until he goes potty. When he does his business outside, praise him immediately! If he has an accident inside, ignore him! Put him outside, clean up the mess and then let him in.

He may be pooping inside for attention. By ignoring him and putting him out when he does it, you will be showing him where to go and proving that his play for attention will not work.

Good luck!

Possibly a bit of rebellion...I had a male great dane who KNEW he wasnt allowed to crap on the patio and he would go outside and wait for the split second that I wasnt watching and do it and then he would look quite pleased with himself afterwards. Maybe he is also having a bit of a terretorial issue going..dominance. That age is when they begin the change into an adult male dog really. Dogs see people as "pack members" and possibly to him you are the competative male in the house now. Have him neutered if he isnt already, that will tone down the hormones. Dont let him see you clean up his mess either when he does it. If you know he does it when you bring him in..be sneaky and wait to catch him in the act.

It might also be a status thing. He's trying to dominate you, so this is one of his ways. Make sure he know where he is in the pecking order.
