I tried for about a year to do the inside puppy pad training to no avail. No, the only time we use the pads is at night. Make sure you keep the pad on the same place. Don’t move it around. When your dog starts to circle and smell, put them on the puppy pad and say “go potty.” After a while, your dog will understand that to “go potty” on the puppy pad. It took a LONG time to get that to work. I now take him outside. He’s taught himself to stand by the door when he has to go. I would take him out each morning when I got up, he stayed in his kennel while I was at work, I was lucky enough to come home during lunch and take him out, and then I took him out when I got home. Each time he went out he got a treat. Then I cut out the treats because he knew he would get a treat EVERY time he sat at the door. It became a treat only when he did both “deeds” outside. It has worked wonderfully. I hope that helps.

Crate training will be your best bet, it is NOT cruel most dogs think of their kennel as a safe spot like wolf would a den. I know Chi to wolf is a far cry but they are still canine. When you are gone kennel her take her out as soon as you get home, then once every hour, and about 30mins after she eats. if she does not potty kennel her. You will learn the difference between an I want out whine and a I really gotta go whine. Dogs do not like to soil where the sleep or spend a lot of time, you also don't want a kennel so big that she can go to one end and potty, and get good distance from it on the other. A chi would need one that is 18x12x15, proselect (get at petsmart, petco, or the like) makes great all wire crates, and you want all wire not the enclosed plastic ones. She is still a puppy so you may need to cut a piece of card board the size of the kennel door and block off 1/4 of the kennel (holes in the cardboard and zip ties work wonders.

It all depends on how old she is .If she is 4-5 months then you should be very consistant .Feed at regular time and within 5-10 min she will begin to search for a place to go .Take her out and STAY OUT WITH HER until she goes. Then praise her.If she has an accident every now and then don't get too excited it will take patience.Just remember eat ---Poop and pee.Wrap up at night and go with her and stay then take her back to the same area.Do not leave food down all the time.Water yes but not food.Put a name on the action like"Lets go Hurry" that is what I say because I got my first baby in Jan.and it was cold I always would say"Hurry Hurry"They really don't want to use their space if that doesn't work try crate training.Go to pets Mart and get a book and try that.Good Luck!!!!!!!!

I own a chihuahua and have never had this problem . I use puppy pads. well as far as the outside bit I was told by my vet since i live in an apt that it is not a good idea to take them outside where everyone else"s dog is going since you dont know if their dogs are vaccinated or not therefore the puppy could pick something up . So it is best to use puppy pads untill the pup is fully vaccinated . Then i would use the puppy pad near the door and take it outside with you and show the dog that this is the proper place to use to relief itself. good luck .

When I first got my chihuahua, I lived in an apartment. How I housebroke him was that I took him out every few hours on a walk. He loves his walks! Now that I've moved into a house and have a doggie door he does good except when it is really cold. I have to make a point of taking him outside to make sure he goes. My advice would be to take one weekend where you are home the whole time and take her out every two hours and when she goes potty praise her like crazy. You have to be very diligent about it, but it won't take long then.

Small canines are generally complicated to potty practice, and there is little danger of it occurring in a week. I propose ranging from scratch on a dogs that has in no way grow to be completely potty knowledgeable. meaning that the dogs is tethered to you with a rope or leash related to his collar once you're with him so as that he has to stay on your sight, and you ought to be watchful and get to him until eventually now he actually is going so as which you would be able to take him outdoors. signs and indications that he's approximately to pass to the washing room can incorporate severe sniffing of a community he has previously went, lifting a leg, squatting down, and circling. some books record lots of situations that a pup will ought to pass out that it is ridiculous. you will possibly be able to besides shop the dogs outdoors, yet some useful suggestion incorporate taking him out after your puppy wakes up from dozing or has these days eaten, yet you ought to take your dogs out each 2-3 hours during the coaching technique. No enjoying whilst outdoors on a potty ruin, and you will possibly be able to choose small treats to grant after he does what he's meant to the place he's meant to. shop them on your pocket, so which you have them staggering after your dogs is going. once you're no longer abode or are dozing, shop your dogs in a crate this is barely large adequate for him to stand up, turn around, and lay down in. Any larger, and he will use one element of the crate as his potty section. After a month of going the place he's meant to you ought to have the skill to sit down down back on the tethering and crating. One final component, you in no way reported if he grow to be neutered. If he isn't, you ought to get him neutered because of the fact element of the challenge may be that he's marking his territory.
