Romans 12:2; AND be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you might prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

We alone cannot in any way cleanse ourselves. We became washed by the blood of Jesus Christ spilled at Calvary,Not by anything we do. And we grow in grace moving from glory to glory through the renewing of our minds to the will and desires of Jesus Christ and his Father God Almighty himself.
2nd Corinthians 10:4; says that the weapons of our warfare are NOT carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down strong holds.
In 2nd Chronicles God tells us the Battle is not ours, But his.
So in short the only thing we have to do is make a decision to serve the Lord God with our whole hearts and not let his word depart from our eyes, ears, and mouth and he does the rest.. While peace and love are a fruit of the Spirit you can not recieve this gift until you recieve him. And you cannot recieve him without meditating upon his word both day and night..

Nope - we are dead spiritually until receiving salvation through Jesus Christ and there is nothing we can do ourselves. Cleansing comes from acceptance of His free gift of salvation.
