My hubby said his boss just bought his wife a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer at an auction. It was a repo and only has 27,000 miles on it. His boss bought it for 11,000 cash. My hubby and his boss work for NE Auto Auction so they know all about cars and all that jazz. Obviously it was a great deal. The only thing is she doesnt want it b/c she wants a Tahoe. So as my hubby and I are looking for a SUV we said we will buy it from you. Right now I have a 04 Pontiac Sunfire with 58,000 Miles on it. Should i trade it in for the Mercury? What are your thoughts with this SUV?

Three years ago I bought a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT (equivalent to the Mecury Mountaineer) off of eBay for $10000 sight unseen. The title was clean. I think that $11K for a 2003 Mountaineer in today's bucks would be a good deal but only if the titile is clean and everything else on the SUV is in good working order. The V8 SOHC engine adds more value and power to your vehicle but comsumes about 2 more mpgs then the 6 cyl SOHC. Make sure that your Mountaineer comes equipped with auto matic 4-wheel drive. The 2 wheel drive options don't hold their value and are practically impossible to sell anywhere north of the Mason-Dixson line. I think you will be plenty satisfied with the amount of interior space in the Mountaineer. Big difference between the Mountaineer and the Sunfire. Liike going from roller skates to a Vespa Scooter ;)

I Don't know, if YOU are comfortable with it, go for it! I have an SUV myself and regret getting it....they cost a fortune and a half to fill up at the pump.
