You will need to have a Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited University and then you will have to take a state certification test. The test usually consists of a mixture of Adult and Juvenile Probation Statues. If you fail this test you cannot work as a Probation Officer, however you can work as a Probation Clerk (for unsupervised/informal probation cases) until you do pass the test. I believe you have to wait 120 days to retake the test if you do not pass it the first time.

If you are asking how do you become "certified" as a probation officer, you need to first insure you meet the requirements needed to be a probation officer. Many probation offices require a college degree.

Depending upon the financial resources of the probation agency will depend upon whether or not they will send you to a police academy to become a "certified" officer.

Many probation officers are former police officers who have already been certified by the state!

Hope this helps.

Best wishes!
