My son has been constipated since birth and I have taken him to many doctor's and now he is seeing a Gastro doctor and she is having me do the bowel cleansing process "with the meds like magnesium citrate and senna C tablets" and she wants to do this for a year and it doesnt seem to help, what else can i do for him? he is always sick to his stomach, can hardly ever have a regular bowel movement, he misses alot of school because of this. he wont eat alot because his stomach always hurts, I have changed his diet to include alot of fiber, veggies, fruits, etc... nothing seems to help. he has been in the ER numerous times for this. what can i do for my son so he can live a normal life??? please help us.
thank you
AJ

For the immediate, you could try giving him some simethicone (gas drops). They are available at nearly any pharmacy or discount store like Wal Mart. This might ease some of his tummy pain. I would also immediately start looking for a specialist that will actually look for the problem. It could be something serious but it could also be something simple that just needs the right attention. If you are doing all the current doctor has ordered and he isn't getting relief, the problem may lie somewhere else and not the bowel. Has this doctor checked his pancreas, gall bladder or appendix? I would go to as many doctors as it takes to get your son the relief he needs. Doctors are not gods and if you are not satisfied with one you need to find one you can trust to have your family's health in his or her best interest.

How terribly frustrating for both of you!
This is just one more attempt at something you can try. I don't know your son's age so you may have to do some strong convincing on this idea.
First: Do a search on colonic irrigations and see what it's all about if you haven't already.
Get him to drink a whole lot more water, too and a stool softener. You said he's getting fibre so you're doing what normally helps relieve constipation.
It's really important to begin the day with water, then fruit, then something heavier. What you're trying to do is give his digestive system a fighting chance not to have to digest heavy meals. Cut out his sugar if you haven't already.
Starting with diet and the high colonics (irrigation) you may then be able to re-train his system to evacuate more regularly. Not eating doesn't help but hinders.
Have you read any of Kevin Trudeau's books?
I'm sorry I couldn't offer anything else.
Wish you both well and soon. Courage!

OMG, this is very serious. Hi, Im a 24 year old mother, I studied two years in the best medical school here in Mexico but hat to stop due to pregnancy. My dad is a doctor. What i want to say is that i know something about this. what your kid PROBABLY has is a rare genetic condition known as Megacolon Aganglionar or Hirschprung disease (im sorry but i think its misspelled). This condition makes the intestines to be completely motionless because a portion of these organs have little or NO nerves to make them move naturally and though your kid may have a regular digestion, theres no way he can take all the waste out of his body. My brother in law suffered from this until he got about two or three operations until he was 9 or 10 years old. This made him miss a lot of school. They waited that long to operate on him because he was constantly missdiagnosed. I suggest you take him to a REAL doctor, not a NUTRITIONIST who will keep telling you to feed him fiber and veggies. My brother in law is a very very very healthy 26 year old man, he has a productive life, hes very very happy and has no side effects other than the little scars in his stomach. He says it was very hard to live with that condition but once it was solved he was completely cured. I wish you the best of luck!!

My Mother went to the doctor complaining of chest pains and i noticed the veins in her right arm where very thin and flat.

then we got this educated doctor who told her it was carpel tunnel. Thankfully I had a friend that is a doctor and she found out she had an enlarged heart. Get a second opinion
and think about the body why do we get constipated? diet?
not on this case I think the poor little guy has not enough natural acids in his tummy to break down the food he eats.

This may not help, but try prunes and prune juice if you haven't already.
