it all depends what you believe... the Christianity,catholic,baptist religion and so forth believe Adam, more Scientology believe monkeys which man evolved from and the the Greeks(god and goddess) believe Gaea came first who was mother nature.
Their are a lot of theories and so forth but is truly you belief, religion or research.
