Can't give you a definitive answer, but Parkinsons' is a neurodegenerative disease. Parkinson suffereres have lost alot of brain cells that affect the level of dopamine a chemical in the brain that among other things control movement. He could be what we call in the boxing biz punch drunk. If you watch his three fights with Joe Frazier Ali took alot of blows to the head and he should have retired after the last fight with Frazier in 1975. But no one can say for sure why he developed Parkinsons'.

Parkinson's disease can be hereditery. Some suggest there's a correlation to the pounding his head took all those years in the ring. Yet, Michael J. Fox wasn't a boxer.
Very sad debilitating disease.

Most likeley getting punched in the head so many times. His "rope-a-dope" strategy. Lay on the ropes and let the other guy punch himself out. Plus when he was fighting the fights were 15 rounds. Thats 3-5+ rounds of getting hit in the head every fight.

Here is the latest causes "genetic, toxins, head trauma, and drug-induced Parkinson's disease." From latest studies, it could of been all the head punches he took after all.
Boxing promoters have denied this for years.

It was all the blows he took to his head. I just watched a show on ESPN that called it sort of a Punch Drunk Syndrom.

No certain reason, he did not catch it from someone, it is not contagious. It is just something that happens to people, and unfortunately, he was one of them.
