I bought a good pair of hiking boots which are a comfortable fitting. They are water proof, but wothin an hour of wearing them my feet start to tingle. If I wear them for more than one day I get something like athletes foot. The over the counter remedies do their job - but is there something I can do to the boot to stop it happening - sprinkle the powder in is an obvious one. Was wondering if any yahooers had a solution?

If your feet are starting to tingle within an hour id be very surprised if its athletes foot - this would take a little longer to rear its ugly head. I would suggest that its more likely you are possibly allergic to the lining of the boot. Two options, take antihistamines, or buy a new pair of boots and check you buy ones with different lining!

As you probably know, 'athlete's foot' or tines pedis is caused by fungal infection caused by parasites on the skin called dermatophytes. They thrive in damp, humid conditions and can be very difficult to shake off. Fungi are found all over our skin and are often harmless. They seem to flourish better on some skins though.
If your condition is really AF, it may be that your boots are not as 'breatheable' as they are made out. When you say 'if I wear them for more than one day', I take it that you do take it off in between days! It may help if you dry out them as much as you can when they are off. Also, buy a good pair of 'wicking' socks that will help transport sweat from your feet to the shoes lining where they can dry off. And when you are not wearing your boots, treat your feet with creams, powders, etc., and keep them dry, espcially in between the toes.

Keep your feet dry, wear gortex boots if possible so your feet can breathe..use powder as opposed to cream (cream tends to keep between your toes damp), powder keeps em dry. Take a spare pair of dry woolen socks and use them.

Another solution I saw on a survival programme is peeing on your feet..not tried it tho..good luck

this may sound gross but madonna pees on her feet in the shower to get rid of athletes feet. Try some baking soda in the boot, it may help, after washing them.
