I am considering adopting a Rhodesian Ridgeback with a class2 overbite. I really like this dog, is this simple a cosmetic flaw or are there others issues to be concerned with problem? Are their future things that can come up related to this? He is 6 months old currently. Thank you so much for your insight.

Are you "adopting" or buying a rhodesian. If the mother got pregnant in their care you are buying a dog and not doing anything to help with the pet population and over euthanizing of adoptable pets. You should also be sure who ever you give money too reports it to the irs!!!

Don't know what a class 2 overbite is. At 6 months many dogs have a slight overbite as the lower jaw develops more slowly than the upper. Unless a dog has an overbite so bad that it is obvious without opening his mouth, then it's purely a cosmetic thing. Only time the bite is of concern is if it is impeding a dog's ability to eat. He shouldn't, of course, be bred from as he might produce puppies worse affected than himself.

Are you adopting this dog from a shelter? If so, then the vet would be able to give you better advice. Class2 overbite could be from several issues. Only a vet can tell you for sure. Good luck.
