It depends on the person. I'd be happy to stay home with my kids & not work full time til they are out of the house. Not sure if that will happen though. Currently my kiddos are 7 & 3 and I will be staying home til the youngest is at least 7. I worked in an excellent daycare during college & decided then that it was not for my kids. No one can do things like mom, no matter how much your kid likes them. Your child can't get the same amount of attention in a 6:1 class as they can in their own home with mom & siblings. The ratio goes up to 10:1 once the child turns 3. Each family is different though & has to do what they think is best.

Until she feels she is ready to go back to work whether it be for herself, her baby or for financial reasons. If you want to stay at home until your child turns 18 & you are happy with this and you can afford it, then by all means do so.
I would have to say for financial reasons, best to stay home until the child is 18 months to 2 years as the cost of daycare is twice as high if they are younger than that.
Lastly, this rule also applies to the fathers as well - it does not have to be the woman who stays home even if you plan on breastfeeding - they do make breast pumps.
Children are only young once - enjoy them and take looks of pictures and videos.

I think it depends on how long the mother can handle it for. I'm a stay at home mom with a part time job I can take my son with me. I personally can't wait until he starts school next year so I can finally go back! I miss working. My boyfriends mom was a stay at home mom her whole life! She babysat for money. Up to you.....

I dont think you should even wait till the baby is two. When you feel comfortable going back to work and of course if you can afford to pay a child minder.

Until her kids go to school then she can get a part time job while the kids are at school if she wants. After her kids are old enough to look after themselves she can work more. That said most husbands who are used to a woman doing the work around the house will probably still expect them to do most of the housework even when they have started going out to themselves. It would be up to you to make him help out around the house if that happened

until baby is about a year old...then go back to work and have the baby in a daycare, because the baby needs some child interaction.

until they are in school all day---that's when I went back. It was just too darn boring to be home.
