My daughter-in-law has a collie, every time she is here her dog, Ty, will sit and stare at one spot in our family room. My mom's lab did the same thing. Sometimes when my doxie is playing her toy will go to that area and she will stare at it awhile then yelp like she got hit and run to me shaking. Do I believe they see spirits? I sure do. Dogs and children see and hear what adults don't. I know this to be true, I've researched it and found that dogs are very sensitive to things like that and children have not yet had it drilled into them that there are no spirits, like most adults have. I only mention truth because I believe there are spirits all around us. Some people do not, and that is okay. Dogs do see them, just look how many people here agree and have had the same experience. Not creepy to me, yet some find it that way.

My border collie saved my life. Although it is not the heroic story folks are going to assume. I was simply going through an highly hard time in my life, and emotions of isolation have been attending to an awfully powerful point among all other matters. Then I noticed the little bundle of golden fur, and realized that something depended on me. That I wasn't absolutely nugatory. Seeing that he has grown up, we now have shared a deep emotional connection. Every time i'm in one among my down moods, he is there both to alleviation me or to help take my mind off things. Additionally, they've kept the backyard clear of squirrels and rabbits (which have a foul dependancy of consuming pumpkin roots and killing the crops), and consistently alert us when someones within the yard. And only some minutes in the past my beagle went after a buddy that used to be pretending to "assault' me while I was typing this haha

I think it's possible. Humans have far too many bounds preventing us from seeing things that may be obvious to animals, inhibitions that act like chains linking us to what we have deemed normal. For all we know dogs see spirits or other things invisibe to us. Maybe orbs, the balls of light that appear in pictures.
Or maybe it was just a sound outside. Dog's hearing is way better than ours, so they can pick up on noises we don't hear. It's very possible there was a cat moving around the house that made a noise that caught your dog's attention.
Or maybe your dog's just gone nuts and really is just seeing things. The world will never know.
Could be pets play jokes on their owners when they do things like that, just to make you wonder about it.

I have a 10 month old Westie/Poodle and she is always 'woofing' at ghosts... or something. It is too funny, not a real bark, just a light woof. I think she thinks there's something there but in reality it's a tree moving or leaves blowing or just plain movement outside. She also watches TV and woofs at the show sometimes. Ears up with big interest and the 'WOOF"... seems to like CSI the most.

As you stated dogs see more and sense more than we could ever imagine so the paranormal is a possibility,my dog does that at my mother in laws house. The house three years old Granny just past away a year ago, and my pooch barks at what appears to me as NOTHING and then she cocks her head and sniffs the air.I Do NOT go there alone anymore, it gives me the creeps.

Dogs senses are infinitely better than ours. It could have been barking at an animal that was outside.
Our dog also barks at his shadow. He was barking uncontrollably last week, staring out into the darkness from our sliding glass door. I looked out and there didn't seem to be anything. We went outside and against the far fence, there was a rabbit. He could see it in the dark and possibly smell it.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/SIjnC
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Animals and children are very sensitive to seeing spirits. Just because you didn't see what your dog saw doesn't mean that there wasn't anything there. By the sound of his reaction, it sure does appear to be a "sighting" by your dog! When my one cat was younger he used to go tracking them thru the house! hehehe! Animals are great! Just acknowledge when he does that and he'll calm down...if you let him know that he did a good job, he'll relax more around them.
