This is a great misconception, there is no requirement of changing name when converting to Islam. Rather people do it of their own volition so signify and strengthen their new Islamic Identity.

If his name has a bad meaning then he has to change his name, If not then it is better to change to an Islamic name ( preferably one of the Sahaba or Ambiya)

no u don't have to, so many people who had converted to Islam keeps their names others like to change it just to use islamic name like (Abdu allah =slave of GOD) (abdul rahman=salve of the mercyful)...
