I was born and raised in NYC and live here currently. I am really used to it, so nothing about it really bothers me, but people who visit sometimes hate the sound, the crowds, and the lack of personal space and privacy. Basically, if you live here just forget about privacy or quiet alone time. I personally love the constant activity and constantly being surrounded by people. When I am away from the city I feel very isolated driving around alone in a car or whatever. I feel that New York forces human interaction upon you, and I love that. I also like that there is constantly something interesting and cultural to do, and many activities are for free. For example, this Friday I am going to see a band I love play for free with an hour of an open bar. A few weeks ago I went to a free art opening that served refreshments and snacks. Restaurant week is next week and so some of the city's best and most expensive restaurants will be discounted so regular people can eat at them. There is so much to do, and oftentimes for free, which helps offset the expense of living here.

New York City is what you can perceive. If your mind is wide-enough, it's a never-ending sensational place that provides new experiences every minute. If you're closed minded, you can move-away to any surrounding suburb at take it in small doses (missing mostly everything) but pretending still, to "live in NYC". What do I love about it? Walking, being here... people. Dislike? Buying a home is very tough. Agendas aren't in the open, from media, business practices, Al Sharpton, to your boss.

Everything that everyone who wasn't born there thinks about it in a negative context are the exact same reasons I adore it...

I started going to the City and hanging out by myself at about 13 years old... (I wasn't really watched much.) I know it like the back of my heart and hand... From Loesada (spelling) to up town, the Sea Port, To Wall Street and back up to SoHo...

I love that it is spooky, I love that people ignore you and even abuse you, if you're an idiot? (Which most people just tend to leave out of the story, when accusing NYer's of rudeness...) I love that it stinks and that there are a bunch of beautiful and often frightening people running around like rats in a cage... I love the traffic, I love the scam artists, the landscape, the archetecture, the sounds , smells... The dirty water dogs!

NYC is the greatest most colorful, wonderful city in the world! and we are the best people in the world because of her!

California is beautiful (I have lived there) and if I could, I would live there too... But NYC will be in my heart forever! It is tryly the greatest experience in the world... Even if it's just for a night out at the theatre and some dinner! Best food, best shows, best entertainers. The best, of the best, of the very best, of everything!

***For above me... That's why they encourage people not to drive in the city... Thats also why they have one of the worlds most efficient public transport systems in the world... See what I mean about the idiots!

I LOVE NYC, living 25 min from it is great, just hop on the NJ Transit and you're there. Um, don't say hi to everyone cause New Yorkers don't care. Lots of people, lots of traffic, make sure you get those honey roasted peanuts and a pretzel. Hot business women. Got a lot of pizza joints all over. But really it depends on which of the Boros you go to, there's 5 of em.

new york has the best shopping hands down. good food, and its very diverse. there's also good food, but don't trust the hot dog stands-they're not good for you. i also like the fact that if you act like a weirdo you don't totally stand out because everyone is so different. and if you like crowded metropolitan areas, you're gonna love new york.
dislike the traffic though, it really slows things down.

The traffic is horrible. The best way to get around & not get road rage is walk or take a bus. Also, please have a street map. It will help you tremendously.
