I had my nose pierced in October. It started to heal well but must have been aggrivated by a cold. Since early december it has developed a lump that comes and goes and sometimes seeps. It can be very painful and red in the surrounding area. It is also aggrivated by swimming which i do often.

I have been cleaning it regularly with salt and boiled water to no avail.

Really dont know what to do might have to take it out and start again on the other side. Could really do with some advice!!!!

Don't use boiling water, just hot water.
Not table salt either. It could make it worse.
DON'T take out the piercing because this might leave a nasty scar.
If you shower in the morning put like some soap on your fingers and put it around it. Then move it around so you know it gets in there. Leave it on for like 30 seconds, then rinse it away.
Then at night do this:
Buy some sea salt and mix it with hot water. Dip like a folded piece of toliet paper and hold it over it until it gets cold.
DON'T use the same paper. Get another one and dip it in the hot water/sea salt.
ALWAYS make sure your hands are clean and don't touch it at all unless you're cleaning it.
If you shower at night, then clean it with sea salt in the morning.
If it persists, go to your nearest/local piercing/tattoo shop. They should help. If not, hope I did!

I have just read some of the other people answers to your question and some of them don't have a clue and probably haven't had their nose pierced in the first place. However, I have. That's why I'm answering....
I had my nose pierced a few years ago and it was fine for the first couple of weeks the person who pierced it gave me a solution to clean it with. I used it for a few weeks them kept forgetting so a scab appeared (Looked like a rice crispy!) i still left the stud in and eventually the scab fell off and left a lump which was fine as it wasn't that noticeable. One day i was drying my face with a towel and i pulled it out by accident and of course couldn't get it back in because of the lump. It didn't leave a scar and my nose has been fine ever since. You have had your nose pierced quite a lot of times. Have you had it done on the same side all 16 times? If so try having it done on the other side. Also keep the stud (The one that it was pierced with) in for a Long time try not to change it. I changed mine before 6 weeks so this could have been the problem.
Since then i haven't had it done again but i am getting it done soon.
Don't listen to the people who say your harming yourself. Do what you like. Although having it done so many times may cause a scar but its totally up to you!

Hope this helps!

Nostril piercing bumps are caused by ill fitting jewelry and/or irritation. If you are swimming constantly, then it is not a hot idea to be trying to heal a piercing.

Also, the proper way to clean it is with Non-iodized Sea salt...not regualr salt. Mix 1/4 teaspoon sea salt in 8oz very warm water. Rinse with clear water after your soak and dry with a paper towel.

Bear in mind nostrils take at least 3 months to a year to heal.

Could be one of a few things.

Read up and then consult your piercer about the best thing for your nose.

Minor infection.

Depending on the color pus, that will help greatly determine if you have an infection.

Sea salt soaks should help as long as the salt is non-iodized. Alcohol is not recommended for use because while it does help some people, it tends to make most problems worse. But talk to your piercer since seeing the bump makes it a lot easier to figure out what you have.

I think you should take it out let it heal. You can re-pierce the same spot later on or pierce the other side. When i had mine pierced it was healing very quickly until it somehow got aggravated and all the progress I had made healing came undone. It killed me for weeks and i jus took it out. Once you screw it up, you're screwed. Let it heal.

Who gave you the salt remedy? I never heard of that! I have a nose piercing and it has giving me problems over the course of the years when I aggrivated it with larger nose rings that stretches the hole in which I have to go back to the original size and not touch it at all for a week just apply alcohol to the surrounding area only! The salt is causing your problem...honey that's and irritant to your womb so to speak. Apply alcohol and do not remove your ring for a week or two and avoid swimming until it has healed completely and clean your ring prior to treatment as well. I would use a stud only until it heals no hoops with a back too keep it in place while you sleep.

that sounds like hypertrophic scarring.

please do not use boiling water! use sea salt (not plain table salt) and *warm* water.

do not play with the piercing, as that will only aggravate it more. quite simply, don't touch it. do sea salt soaks (or chamomile tea sea salt soaks, if you wish. some people swear by that method).

if you take it out, it will scar. also, most nostril piercings have a tendency to develop hypertrophic scarring, so if you do get the other side done, it's quite likely it will happen again.

with patience and sea salt soaks, it will vanish. i promise.

It sounds like you have a minor infection, don't worry is easy to solve, I've has may piercings, NOT DOZENS! but yes 3 or 4 and when this happens I just apply 3 times a day Yo-dine... it kills the infection totally... it will help you a lot, ...god bless you!

I would hang on in there with it! Try using TCP, it works wonders and make sure you use it as soon as you come out the water, you probably developed an infection when you had the cold. Just perservere and use the TCP.
Hope it heals soon!
