I just stared living on my own and I have to go to the grocery store EVERY Sunday! Is this normal, or do I just not know how to shop for groceries yet (i.e. buy in bulk)?

We go "grocery shopping" once a month. But we still need to go one or more times a week to get fresh veggies, milk, etc. We go to Sam's and get our bulk stuff about once a month too. From there, we only get stuff like toilet paper, laundry detergent, napkins, diapers, formula - stuff like that.
(We are two adults and a baby - it might be different if it's just you)

Dewcoons has hit the nail on the head. Major shopping once a week then 1-3 times for added things like running out of milk or bread.
I go everyday now (work at a grocery store) but I used to go about 4 times a week. Making a list helps because sometimes you need something then forget it. If you are a coupon shopper, find a store that doubles and you'll end up paying next to nothing. But coupon shopping takes a lot of time.
Congrats on your new independence!

I go almost daily. I buy fresh veggies & fruits, also meat needs to be fresh. I don't have a freezer and very little storage space (one-room appt) so I couldn't buy in bulk if I wanted to, not unless I'd want to stack the cereal boxes against the wall :) But I like it best for freshness too, especially when you live alone large boxes tend to go stale... most products don't actually get to the point of being dangerous/unhealthy that quick but it does affect the taste. If you don't mind (or mind grocery shopping more :)) then by all means try to buy more in bulk -places like Sam's Club are good for savings too- but if you're a bit of a gourmet just learn how to grab the stuff you need quickly. I'm usually back in 20 minutes and that includes getting my coat & unpacking the little I bought.

I usually go about twice a month. I stock up on can goods and meat for the freezer and other things but if i run out of milk or eggs or something like that I will go back just for that in between but I try to get as much stuff as I can that way I don't have to keep going back. I hate grocery shopping.

Some of your major grocery items - milk bread, fresh fruits and vegetables - will only stay good for about a week or so. I find myself in a grocery store about once a week for these items. But the things that will keep - frozen meats and other frozen meals, cereals, canned goods, etc. - I try to stock up on to only have to buy once a month or less. Of course, I always find some of these items on special when I'm dashing in to buy other things, or think of another meal I'd like to have. But I'm able to keep my weekly shopping down to $30 or so, usually (cooking for two).

I live on my own and you just need to try to think ahead a little more.. if you buy in bulk though u will be eating the same thing what seems like forever!! Buy things according to your likes..for example, its ok to buy a 3-5 lb. thing of hamburger since you can make so many different things with it but put it in smaller bags for the freezer. The only extra things i go out for if i plan for 2 weeks is milk..which i can just pick up when i'm getting gas too..Good luck on your own..it takes some getting used to but it's got its plusses too.

Every Saturdays. Buying meat in bulk is fine, just store in the freezer, but fresh vegetables and fruits need to be bought and consumed before they lose their freshness. So every Sunday is normal.

If you are buying things like bread, milk, fresh veggies and fruits, than you must shop once a week (at least). Enjoy these weekly trips while you are single. Once married with a family, you'll visit the grocery store several times a week. (But, it's worth it!)
