A 1997 review article summarizing the results of past research
concluded that meal frequency - whether during the day or at night -
had no clear effect on body weight. That is, people who chose to eat
frequently, regardless of the time of day, had no higher rate of
obesity than those who ate fewer large meals.
In a study of more than 2,000 middle-aged men and women, 9% of women
and 7.4% of men described 'getting up at night to eat.' Overall, there
was no difference in weight gain between those who did and those who
did not. A study in 2004 of more than 800 men and women noted that the
more people ate in the morning, the less they tended to eat during the
course of a day, while people who ate more at night tended to eat more
overall. A trial from January 2005 found that eating late at night was
not associated with weight gain even among people with 'night eating
syndrome'...
It is possible that, for some people, eating at night is associated
with weight gain. Perhaps they find it easier to be careful about
portion size and food choices during the day but simply 'lose it' at
day's end. For some, the structure of three meals a day may make it
easier to avoid excessive calorie intake. But it's probably a myth
that eating before bed has a unique ability to promote weight gain
compared with eating at other times of the day. Although scientific
studies someday may prove that calories ingested before bed are
handled differently than calories ingested at other times, evidence
for this commonly held belief is lacking. For now, it's safe to assume
that one's weight reflects the balance between calories burned and
calories consumed over time, regardless of when you choose to eat."

It's probably a combination of a bunch of stuff but I would say this is definitely a large factor. Your body won't use all that food by the time you go to bed (assuming you sleep at 11 or 12). All of this food that wasn't used up before you went to bed, will just be stored as fat. You probably don't do much activity after 9 also so your metabolism probably slows down. You should try having your biggest portions at lunch time (only if absolutely necessary). Under all other circumstances, you should consider reducing your portions all together and eat more often (during the day) so that you won't be so hungry at night. If you eat 5 meals a day but eat only a small meal/snack for all of them, it might help you cut off some pounds. Eat every 2-3 hours but only about 200-300 calories in each meal. good luck

If you exercise in the evening, your body needs the calories at night, and you won't gain weight. But if your body does not need calories, you could potentially gain weight at any time of day. Try to cut off your eating 2 hours before you go to bed (as your metabolism REALLY slows down when you're sleeping, unless of course you exercised), and try eating some healthier foods... tons of cookies? Eat an apple or crackers or something a little better for you! :)

Removing waste makes you lose weight, because you are expelling up to a half pound of weight into the toilet. Eating at night isn't good because that is when the body is shut down for sleep. It needs a minimum of calories to keep it self going.
I would suggest you switch your day around. You may be hungry at night because you are not getting enough during the day. Try eating a larger breakfast and lunch and small dinner. You are up and moving around breakfast and lunch and therefore will burn off the food you eat. Try not to eat anything after 7pm.

I will try to keep it simple. Your metabolism is basically the rate at which your body burns calories to create energy. So the faster your metabolism, the faster you burn calories and the easier it is to lose unwanted weight. To boost your metabolism naturally you just need to eat the right foods.
You can sit down and literally eat a 1,000-calorie dinner and yet be absolutely starving just a few hours later and the reason is simple: Because your body didnt get what it needed in those 1,000 calories so it sends signals to your brain telling you to ingest more calories and thus, the late-night cravings. That means that the surest way to end those late-night cravings and keep your weight loss goals on track is to eat a more balanced, nutritious diet that actually gives your body what it needs.
It's VERY EASY to lose weight if you eat the right foods. Check out Dr. Charles Livingston's video here: http://www.sexyjese.com - it will blow your mind.

it's not good to eat allot right before going to bed because you burn of less while you are sleeping. Though it is really good that you are eating something for breakfast, most people don't relize that skipping breakfast actually causes you to gain wait as your body thinks its straving and when you finally do eat lunch it stores it instead of burning it off again.
Best way to lose wait is eat breakfast and if your not hungry for lunch try eating at least a light snack or two to tide you over and that way you won't be so hungry at night. And of course try to exersice at some. Skipping meals is not a good idea though most people think it is.

It wont make make you gain alot of weight but it will be a bit of an increase because your movement and activity decreases when your asleep
Its not healthy to eat just before going to bed, as it can affect sleep. Try to get in the habit of eating a bigger lunch and breakfast and a lighter dinner.
No going to the toilet does not make you gain weight.

people who gain weight because they are eating at night are only gaining because they have had all the calories they should have in the day already. the night snack adds extra, and they start to gain. what you are doing sounds okay, but skipping lunch is not the best of ideas. it can really drop your metabolism, but if it's what you want to do.... that's fine :)

It does not matter when you eat a lot - in the morning, or in the evening, you will still gain weight. Time of day does not matter, as recent survey shows.
So, if you eat a lot in the morning, you will gain weight, and eating a lot in the evening will make you gain weight.
