Let's put it this way, you would keep doing the same thing over and over and never stop. For example, if you wanted to tie your shoelaces you would tie them and then untie them and tie them over again just to make sure you had tied them, and then repeat that over and over for an hour or two. I once saw a hidden video of a letter carrier checking the inside of a postal collection box for letters; he must have checked it 50 times, over and over, and looked a looked a lot like a cuckoo on a cuckoo clock when the clock chimed 50 o'clock. Same thing with wishing your hands, instead of just washing your hands like a normal person you will do it over and over and over and over non stop for 20-30 times for an hour and never get finished. It also is the same sort of thing that happens when you have to turn a light on and off a half dozen times just to make sure it is really turned off.

obsesive compulsive disorder is charactorized by a need to repeat things or do specific things in a specific order for fear of something hapening. it can be really repetative. sometimes people who will wash their hands compulsively also fear touching things that may be unclean. you know when it becomes obsessive when people are telling you to lighten up. if you are constantly being told to quit worrying about things and people automatically are affraid to touch you in fear of contaminating you, you might have ocd.

If you are walking down the street and you meet a friend, but are afraid to shake their hand for fear of germs, you might have OCD.

If people call you Monk and pick on you for being strangly obsessive and different, you might have OCD.

If you must use bleach to clean doorknobs on an hourly basis you might have OCD.
