i have naturally dark blonde/mousey hair and have been dying it black semi-permanently for about 18 months, i recently tried to lighten it with a brown hair dye (permanent) but it wasn't very effective, i really want my natural hair back so i can get some highlights and be blonde for the summer. Is there any way i can get the black out? I'm desperate so would be prepared to bleach it if absolutely necessary... please help

ok now i'm scared, if i could just get it to a less harsh nice warm brown colour i could let it grow without looking like a freak, is this gonna cause as much hassle?

I've done this before to one of my clients. She was the darkest black you could think of and she was a natural blonde and she wanted to go back to blonde. You first have to remove the black with a color remover. OH, but first you really need to make sure that you go to a salon to do this! Never try this at home! Your hair could melt off from all of the stress....Ok, so they would use a color remover it's not gonna just remove the black and leave your beautiful blonde that you started with. It's going to be this nasty ugly brown/green slimy color. It's quite ugly just to warn you. Then they would start decolorizing your hair. This could take all day!! Then i'm not sure if they would ask youto come back to finish the hair color. I asked mine to come back but she refused so i toned her hair color and after everthing was done. I told her to come back in a week for a reconditioning treatment... not to straighten or blow dry her hair for a week. no gels, mouses, or hairsprays. Her hair turned out beautiful in the end but it was hard work. Good tip on a salon: one that uses strictly CHI products. This will minimize the damage, and the result of melting off your hair. Their hair color has NO AMMONIA in it. And that's what can cause your hair to melt away. Good Luck! i'd love to hear how you made out.

ok whatever you do don't try this at home you will stuff up your hair.
So go to a very good salon and explain what you have been doing and where you'd like to get.

More than likely your hair has a massive build up of black through the ends so it won't happen overnight. A good hairdresser will explain to you that it won't and that it will take time, many treatments and a plan to get your hair the way you want it with.

If anyone tells you they can do it straight away in 1 shot get the hell out of there, I've done this that many times its not funny.

If you do the hole lot of it or just in foils there will be a heap of different color bands throughout your hair and they will need to be toned down and for getting it blond straight away its near impossible and you hair will just snap it self off.

If you were to go full blond you looking in about a years time at about every six weeks appointments.

good luck

You can only put colour into hair. If you want to lighten then you have to pre light first. Black is such a hard colour you will need to seek professional advice on this. I suggest you go to your salon where they will be able to give best advice on seeing your hair. You may have to cut it. Normally semi colours are just that they last about 6 weeks but with black it has obviously stained you hair at ends with continous use

Apparently, maybe this is an old wives tale, but some anti dandruff shampoos strip some of the colour from your hair. There are usually help line number on the boxes of the product so you could ring them for extra help.

But I'd go with the others, and go to a good salon. Don't bleach it, you could wreak your hair.

Black is just impossible to remove. You can apply the blondest blonde color, but nothing would happen, so bleach is the only way to go, unfortunately...think about it and HAVE IT DONE, DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF under ANY circumstances! spend some money and go to a saloon and take good care of your hair afterwards, massages, nourishing creams, etc. Bleach is the worst thing for your hair, but it can survive if you take care of it.

Good luck!

Yes they can, i had it done ! It does take a long long time.. You have to do it by a built up of highlights so that your hair stays healthy. I have hair to my chest and it took me about 8 months. However if you do decide to just get it bleached then yes do it but to get it back into condition you should try using any conditioner and either putting a plastic bag over your hair (not your head) and letting the heat from your head circulate and the conditioner will soak into your hair. Or if when you come out the shower keep the conditioner in and wrap it up in a towel and hair dryer the towel. They are good ways that i use to keep my hair healthy.

Look you have already regretted what you have done so far by doing it yourself, so go to the hairdresser, A GOOD ONE, and ask what the best way would be to dye it back. do not fuc*k with your hair anymore, you might never get it back to the way you want it if you do. And besides, atleast you know when your in safe hands that it will turn out ok.

goodluck x

I had the same problem a while ago, but my solution was to shave the black hair off.. Perhaps a professional hairdresser will have a less drastic method for you.

the only way to get the black out it to strip your hair and put color back in. this is very harsh and should be professionally done. I did this and lost a lot of my hair

Hi there i would defiantly go to a saloon.
They will color strip it for you back to your natural color.
Its the only way to do it and make sure you look after it, once you've had the treatment.
DO NOT LET THEM BLEACH YOUR HAIR!!!
