Looking at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista and taking Windows Vista Home Premium for example.
The US will be paying $239.00. Which at current rates is £121. but the retail price in the UK is £219.99. Thats close to twice the amount.
Also, the rest of Europe will be paying 329 Euros. at current rates thats $427!

I understand that they may take shipping costs into consideration but surley i doesnt cost £100 to ship a single retail box.

Anyone got an explaination for the difference in price?
Thanks

Microsoft claim it's all about your end country taxes and import duties.
Also they wash their hands by saying it's not Microsoft setting price - but retailers like Amazon.

Those countries should blame their government for putting higher taxes on software goods. Those extra taxes include Value Added Tax(about extra 10% to 15% in some countries), Goods and Services Tax(extra 10% on top of the selling price), Exicse duties etc. This is why in countries outside the USA, prices for the same item are overinflated. They should only blame their greedy governments for making them pay higher prices than consumers in the USA.

I don't think most people would fork out that much for an OS, and if they do..they are insane.

The dude above was right, use linux..or stick to XP or in my case 2000.

$427..i could buy a new PC for that.

I wouldn't even consider using it. Some of your older software won't work with it and guess what? You'll have to buy a Vista-friendly edition. I have just bought a new laptop with XP media centre on it because I specifically do not want Vista.

hey that is microsoft.Even in my country it costs thrice the amount it costs in US.I live in India.
I think they want us to change over to some other operating system just for the reason that every thing in XP costs money.Where as many linux softwares are free.
