No. A CD Writer is mechanically different from a CD drive. A DVD writer is different again.
A CD Writer has a more powerful laser, DVD format is quite different from CD format (though a DVD writer can usually also write CDs)

Sorry you can not do that. If you wish you can purchase a cd writer or dvd writer, advantage is that it will do both reading and writing work for you.

CD-ROM itself explains that it is CD-Read Only Memory. It has ability to read only from the CD; while writter has both the abilities.
COMBO Drives are available which can
Read CD, Write CD and Read DVDs.
