I agree that the Whitsunday Islands are extremely beautiful. Hamilton Island is gorgeous, it's off the coast of Airlie Beach, which is roughly half way up the QLD coast and close to Hamilton is an island called Whithaven, which has the whitest sand you'll ever see. If you want something very classy, you could try Hayman Island, which is lovely, and the accomodation glorious. They should have have websites, esp as Hamilton is VERY popular for weddings - it has a little chapel that overlooks the water, and it is just beautiful. If you're not keen on the internet, I would recommend having a read of a Lonely Planet Guide, they make one for Queensland, and it will give you a basic outline of the places you can go, and what to see there. If you do visit the islands, you can do things like snorkelling and scuba diving, visit the Great Barrier Reef on a day trip, go on a glass bottomed boat (so that you can see the fish below you), feed the local wildlife like parrots, and on some islands, koalas, kangaroos, play golf, swim, and lots of beach activities. You can also fly cheaply into that area, using Jetstar to fly into Mackay (from Sydney or Cairns), or using VirginBlue I think you can fly into the whitsunday coast. It is about a two hour flight from Sydney to the Whitsundays, and hardly anything from Cairns, so don't be worried about travel times, unless you're going from coast to coast it won't take you too long to get where you want to go.

We came from Victoria to live in this beautiful state. I never liked Adelaide, I found it too boring. Can't believe that Queensland is not the most popular state with so many people migrating every week from all other states. I just love Queensland and wouldn't live anywhere else.

i would have to agree with bree h, I was in Adelaide for a competition and was bored by lunch on my first day of non competition. there is nothing to do there. I would love to go to queensland, and would have thought that it was an extreemly popular area. I am from victoria and hae only been to sydney, andelaide and canberra, as well as of course melbourne.

Yeah Yeah QLD is great for a holiday but that's about it. Its to hot in Summer the humidity is at the extreme level, your washing goes mouldy because its to humid to dry, you have a shower and feel you need another because you start sweating as soon as you get out because its so damn humid. But that is on the coast i can't comment about inland as I've never lived there, i know it gets really hot in the day and really cold at night.
I think Victoria is the greatest state, yes i live there now but i have lived in QLD!
The weather changes very quickly (usually) i think that's a good thing rain on day sunshine the next never 35+ weeks in row.
Great night life, restaurants, family entertainment, great parks and beaches as well as snow fields close by in the winter time.
Oh yeah Qld is really expensive now!!!
I do like to visit though in winter through to around October.

Queensland is one of the best.Figures show that more backpackers prefer it to N.S.W or Victoria.
