solar water preheating is an excellent way to save money and energy without sacrificing any luxury.
Added insulation, too. Make sure your attic and exterior walls are well-insulated. thicker carpets can also help.
A programmable thermostat also saves money and energy.
Sola energy would be nice, but it's a LONG term investment. A cheaper alternative is outdoor solar lighting....
Heavier drapes over the windows, and a pond...
buy a hand-mower if you have grass.
have trees on your property.
storm windows and doors, and energy-efficient windows.
fluorescent lighting helps, too.
composting toilets are too far for most people...
but having seperate garbage cans for each type of recyclable can be an excellent thing...and one can for compostables can lead to free lawn and garden fertilizer.
all of the above will save you money...which is the second shade of green in a "green" home.

you can do this by various methods. A copletly greenhouse house will have a solar energy pannel , composition pit , wind mill rain water harvesting etc youcan also search the web.
