if you have never been able to hear anything at all, then what language are the thoughts in? hearing people think in their native tongue, but if you never knew what words and sounds sounded like then what do the thoughts translate into?

I am deaf and i will say that we as deaf believe that sign language is a language. Of course deaf can't hear anything but remember some of us are using hearing aid and can hear anything. Most of us already raised to practice how to hear and how to talk for our future. Also you said that hearing people has native tonuge, i will say deaf people have our hands to use. Our hands and our face are very important in communcation because it helps other to understand what we talk about and how we feel in our face expression. Once you learn something in sign language, you will see how much it is different. You might like that.

I would guess they think in sign language. Probably if they're reading (say English) they'd think in English, possibly translating to sign.
