Is there any small handy instrument available in Indian market that can be used for knowing how much an electrical instrument like an electric motor, tv etc. makes by attaching it? How much it costs?

Well I don't know if there is a "Radio Shack" store in India but they would sell a volt meter. But typically, most countries will list the voltage used on the product label.

Though outside the US, hard to say.

I think it is true that the voltage on appliances is standard. the difference is in wattage and amperage.

Sorry to not be more help.

And if you get such a meter, be careful, as you will be measuring power on a live circuit.

Or, take your device to a licensed electrician.

there are a number of portable instruments available in theindian market that can be used fr measuring electricity
the most common being the ampere hour metre
it reads the amperes of current used per hour and tells the consumption of electricity.thus by taking down the readings and multiplying it by the electricity rates we can get the bill
this is also the way by which the electricity board takes the readings

just buy a kwh meter and install in your incoming cable to the distribution board that very cheap way to monitor your consumption may be
