I read here http://www.peta.org/feat/military/ that goats and other animals are injured for giving traning medics in the army. I also confirmed this department of defence website. see this http://ermsapps-web.afis.osd.mil/cgi-bin/rightnow_DefenseLink.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=q23URtsi&p_lva=&p_faqid=425&p_created=1095344324&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MjM5JnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li=

that is so disgusting, the ironic thing is that we reached a high level in education, NASA Managed to discover many things that are in the moon, we have the latest technology and everything , and till now they didn't bother themselves to make something that these military people can practice on, without killing a single soul, whether it is animals or anything else, these things are like humans they have feelings, they feel pain and they suffer like us.... can't believe that they are training on them as if there is no other option, and can't believe the people who invent things, that they didn't really invent something that have good use for people instead of spending lots of money and time to create more power-full weapons ...

I'm Disgusted. Peta is claiming that the U.S. is doing that, but then in small little letters says that all images are from Israeli tests? And in 1946, animals were being killed for movies too... So I don't doubt the military had their part... But now? Oh, they can't get information because it's top secret.

And as for that ermsapps site... Get some clue. It is FAKE. I probably got a virus just checking that. It's not uncommon to put up fake "official looking" websites. Check your sources next time.

In response to the addition:
Ermsapp isn't the military site... but the other one you listed is. The date on the question is only three years past... No biggie.

But, you know, Down to the real point... Using those animals means saving lives in war. Those animals are domestic meat animals, which means they were born to die. Which can't be said for the soldiers who get their legs blown off, shrapnel in the chest, and worse... defending the civil rights of every U.S. citizen, as well as the rights of people from other countries.... Did you also read all the articles about U.S. soldiers helping natives from war torn countries with their livestock? Veterinary care and all? Or pet rescues in emergency situations, such as huricane Katrina?

It's not like the soldiers have a nice hospital waiting to take them in. These medical personel have to do what they can in less than optimal conditions, with limited equipment, and in a hurry. I don't feel bad for the goats, because they would have died for someone's dinner anyways. They died for a far more noble cause if they help save the lives of soldiers who defend and protect.

Your gonna love my take: in 1967 I was taking an advanced course for medics at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, home of the Army Medical Corps.

The class before me was in "an uproar" as to the "Dog Lab" experience, as were we. The Army changed to using goats
as people do not have that emotional tie to such.

We learned how to well do emergency surgical airways, venous cut downs and how to place "chest tubes". None of us enjoyed it,
but there was no way the Army could allow each of us to rotate through a hospital ER for months to gain that level of skills.

We had an anesthesia specialist, probably a veterinarian, who sedated the goat via gas and IV medication.

I cannot tell you how many lives were saved in Vietnam: not only soldiers but civilians due to each of gaining such skill.

I know that the military now has better simulators and such
as computer training.

In a 'perfect world" such measures would not be needed. But medics, PA's and young physicians need to have done such
and demonstrate that they can before they find themselves in combat.

The program was not for every combat medic as they are not required to do all the procedures in the field.

Besides it is not an "Army" issue as look at our medical schools.

Again I would have liked to learn such say in the ER or even in an Animal Hospital "ER" setting. But so many young lives saved because a few of us learned essential skills.

its a goat, not a human. doesn't have a soul, doesn't have anwhere near the central nervous system or brain capacity to cipher these things, and they can be tasty. Goats are bred to be eaten, its what they are for. In other words, who cares? we also shoot rats, skin snakes alive, trap rabbits, eat ants, crickets, and an occasional fish, all during certain phases of training. We are human, we eat meat, its what we do. When it comes to medical training, it is especially justified. Better a dead goat, then alot of dead soldiers because a medic wasn't properly trained to deal with battlefield trauma.

It's not just the army that uses animals. EVERY medical device manufacturer uses animals for their research before they are given permission to do human trials. Pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, vascular stents; these are just a few examples. You might as well boycott going to ANY hospital for treatment if you feel that strongly about it.

Why don't you volunteer to take the place of the goats? Are you really so narrow-minded that you would place the life of a goat over that of a human being?

STOP! STOP RIGHT NOW! DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LOOK AT OR LISTEN TO ONE SINGLE WORD FROM THE ECOTERRORISTS AT PETA!!!

Would you rather they practice on humans?

It is time for the internet to have a real place for us to debate the world's issues in a civilized manner.
