Something might have gone funky in your BIOS settings--not highly likely but possible. Also, there may be some loose connection somewhere inside as in the memory sticks or cables. Also, maybe your power supply is going bad. Another possibility is the motors inside your harddrive that turn the disk platters is going bad--so sometimes it spins up at speed and sometimes it spins slow taking longer to access information for you to use. Now, some computer-geek-guru is going to have to jump in and criticize my answer as being wrong and my possible solutions don't apply to your problem. All I can say is these are real possibilities only, without a much more detailed description as to what precisely does or does not happen when you turn your machine on. Another last possibility is too much commercial dealer crap on your version of windows. Dell and Gateway are notorious for having their restoration CDs installing dozens of programs that start up with windows and run in background sucking up resources.

Easy to answer with your computer on a workbench, but very hard to answer here.

It seems you have covered the obvious things to try.

So now you need parts to swap in and out.

In a workshop we would connect a known good Hard Disc Drive (HDD) with a Working copy of Windows installed.

If the Computer works OK we now know your HDD is faulty. If the problem is still there we would swap in and out components until the computer worked ok.

This does not talk very long. Typically 30 minutes.

If you can't do this you are going to spend days getting nowhere.

Take your computer to a repair facility.
