The best website for EFL jobs in Italy isn't ESL Cafe (it's mainly Asian jobs) but rather TEFL.com. They cover Europe much more thoroughly.

I was in Italy for a few months this past year. I went and was planning on staying for a year. However I found out that it is hard to work there if you don't have EU citizenship. I did my CTEFL course in Florence at a school there and then moved to Milan and was without a job a bit. I finally found a job my posting ads at the local universities and around different cafes and shops around the city. You can do tutoring or be a nanny. In many cases you don't have to speak Italian because they actually want you to speak English to the kids.

Try going to the information or visitors center and they almost always have newspapers in English that have jobs posted in them. Try http://www.eslcafe.com/ or Craig's list.

But most of all don't get discouraged. I have several friends who are sill living in Milan and they are doing great.

Good luck and enjoy every second of it!

You could try teaching English, I went to Italy and did this, If you have the time and money do a TEFL course (the best being CELTA) before you go, although you don't need any Italian to do this I would recommend learning some.
