A 2 day stay in the Queens city jail will get you cereal and a small milk for breakfast, small water and cheese on stale bread for lunch, small water and peanutbutter on stale bread for supper. No water or drink of any kind the rest of the day. This causes dehadration and health problems. Also sleep on mats or dirty floors and no heat or air.16 people put in a small room for 8 hours and only seating for 3 people. This should be considered abuse and neglect. The truth is those that make and those that enforce the laws are above the laws and are allowed to break them.

I think it is sad so many people think it is acceptable to neglect or abuse anyone. If you kick a dog daily, it does not make a better dog, it turns him into a killer. In jail, prison or war, we must never accept neglect or abuse as a form of punishment. That makes the law as bad as those that commit crimes. If your child stole from your purse, would you starve them and refuse them water ? Would you make them sleep on a dirty cold floor ? Have we become so cold and heartless that we can no longer put ourselves in someone elses shoes? If the answer is yes and compassion is dead, then I would rather live in another world.

I see by the post that compasion and common sense are dead. Adults age 18-? Do make mistakes and must be punished, but abuse and neglect is not the way.Did you realize police no longer have to read you, your rights or even tell you what you are being arrested for ? It is a fact.Look at all the drug addicts in this country.Instead of sending them to expensive rehab, they are put in jail. That does not solve the problem.People need to wake up! Only those without sin can throw the 1st stone. I guess everyone on this site has never made a mistake in judgement.

You were not abused or neglected. You were being punished for breaking the law and probably aren't too interested in returning to jail now are you? You received more food than most of the people in the world get daily and I think we would ALL be better off if all jails and prisons stopped pampering criminals and punished them.

I have a hard time believing your particular slant that jail is all that bad in Queens. I've toured enough facilities that I know that most are fairly clean and well maintained - this is Texas we're talking about but I'm betting its not too different in other parts of the country. You're talking like you're a friggen Holocaust survivor. Try a jail in Mexico if you want a really bad experience. I doubt you were abused, I doubt you were neglected, and I doubt your life or health was in any danger. (Aside from catching what ever bug another inmate might have. Oh no! The flu!)
Stop whining and stop doing illegal **** and you won't have to go back to jail. End of story.

They can't and don't. First of all jail is not a picnic or vacation and as far as packing people in and not enough seats, I guess next time bring your own Lazy-boy. As far as food and water, Do you think anybody will buy that. Prisoners are afforded decent meats and water, on a regular basis as provided by law, If you are taking about that the guards wont fetch stuff for you, then your right they are there to keep you locked up not to serve you.

I see what you're saying, and you raise a good point. However, we are talking about a jail, which means these people didn't get here by mere 'chance'. Even though I'm against a lot of what the government stands for, prison shouldn't have reclining chairs, comfy beds, and the finest fruit for killers and rapists.
Although, they should certainly have more than 24 ounces of water per day... that's pretty hard on the kidneys if we're talking about years of prison :(

Hey, if that's not a deterrent to commit crime, what is? Kudos to Queens.
**RE: Added details: Cat, you train your children at home. If they steal from you, you ground them. They are kids. But if they do not learn the lessons in their childhood, and grow up to steal and injure and kill other people, then the grounding and the spankings apparently didn't work. It's time for cold floors, thin blankets, and skimpy meals... and as the person from Africa said, that's a heckuva nicer deal than folks in some other countries get. Let's hope the Queens treatment works better than the grounding and the spankings did.

Kinda makes ya not want to do something wrong to get put in jail doesn't it.........seems like it's working to me.
Comparing yourself to a child......come on. You can't compare a criminal devient to a child. Perhaps a dog but not a child. I agree that they should not be abused, but they should not live as Kings either. It seems you had three meals a day, what more do you want? There must be running water so you couldn't have been in fear of dehydration.

It is part of their education program. It is striving to make people intelligent enough not to do things that will cause them to come back to jail again.

Prisoners must be punished commensurate to their crimes and must not be given amenities and food as if living in 5 star hotels.

Whatever. A jail houses CRIMINALS. Views like that is how they are able to sue and actually get support for it.
