I am So sorry. My dog had Distemper and we had to put her to sleep. (Panleukopenia is the Feline form of Distemper)
I know it is a really hard situation to be in, and I know where you are coming from. putting rosie down broke my family's heart.
I believe that some forms of Panleukopenia can be treated with blood transfusions and medcine, so when you talk to the vet she/ he may bring that up as an option. If, the vet says he thinks that it would be best to put your little one to sleep, I know it will be hard, but it might be what is best for him.
If this does happen.- check out petloss.com, it's a really great place where you can talk with other families who have and are going through the same thing. it will really help.
But for now, just try to stay positive, you'd be amazed at what modern medice can do- and I really do think that it is treatable.
Good Luck.

The first 12 to 24 hrs are the most critical. You will find out in the morning if your kitten is out of the woods. If you have any other animals in your house hold I would get them checked out as well. This is because Panleukopenia is contagis. But I'm sorry it is a wait, pray, and see sittuation. You did the best you could and I'm sure the Vets will too. Just have faith and remember that whatever outcome it was God's plan. If it is still really bad I would have to say put him to sleep if there is nothing else the vets can do. It is not murdering when the kitten is suffering. I'm so very sorry. God Bless and Good luck. I would like to know the out come if you don't mind. If not then that is ok.

I truly feel bad for your kitten's condition. My wife and I adopted two kittens about 18 months ago, and a week later one of them began vomiting and laying by himself under the bed. The next day I took him to a vet (the only one that would give me an appointment the same day) and the vet diagnosed him with basically just a stomach virus. He gave me an antibiotic and said that things would be fine. Later that day the other kitten began to throw up and acting the same way as the first. When she threw up a roundworm my wife and I became very concerned and took them both to an emergency vet hospital.
These vets were very competent and immediately began running tests on our kittens. It turned out that they both had Panleukopenia. They were both treated with antibiotics, an IV, and constant watch and care.
Basically, if your cat was put on an IV the same day he began to throw up I would rate his chances of surviving to be pretty good. It is usually malnourishment or dehydration that will harm the kitten. The vet will be able to give you the chances of surviving and if it doesn't look good for your kitten the best thing to do would probably be to put him down. We had to have the little boy kitten (Bristol) put to sleep, but our precious little girl (Ella) was put on the IV soon enough and miraculously pulled through. She is now our special little girl and means the world to us.
I hope and pray that your kitten can make it through!

i'm very sorry to have to tell you this, but panleuk is very deadly to kittens. the success rate is not good. you may want to prepare yourself that your kitten did not make it through the night. using fresh frozen plasma, and antibiotics to prevent a secondary infection are the best to treat the kitten, but your vet will be doing what they can, and what is right for your kitten. i'm sorry for you and your kitten. but putting him to sleep or euthansing him is not murder. if your kitten is comatose, in pain and suffering, and your vet, who is a professional leads you toward euthansia as being what might have to be done. know that you have already done all you can. and that sometimes letting go is the kindest thing we can do for our pets. again, i'm very sorry.
panleuk is not the same as dog distemper, it is much like the canine form of parvo.

That's a question that can only be answered by you and your qualified veterinarian. It is a serious disease and produces a horrible death.
If your veterinarian suggests euthanasia, I know it would be a very hard thing for you to do, but think about it, do you want your pet to suffer? Putting it to "sleep" is NOT murder. Murder, i.e. pre-meditated killing, was only given to mankind in his law. Man was instructed to care for the animals. Care sometimes means putting an animal out of it's misery.
Only you can make the final decision.
I know it is heartbreaking. I've been in your position before. I really do feel for you and for the kitten.
Do what is best for him, and know it is the right thing.

If your kitten, does not get any better soon, then yes, I am afraid that you'll have to put it to sleep. I love animals just as much as you do.
