The Sikh warriors are famous for their courage and bravery. Pound for pound they would rate amongst the best. The difference is that times have changed and while the Soviets were in "power" during the 80's the USA funded the Mujaheddin to become an organised fighting force instead of unorganised tribes, in addition to this Saudi money improved them even more.
Problem was that they became the Taliban and stayed the organised force that they once were. Now that USA have changed their plans and want control of the pipeline, the Taliban don't suit their purpose. The Saudis are still funding them to the tune of billions of dollars and the mix of good weapon supplies and knowledge of the mountains will make sure that they may not triumph, but will never be beaten.
Plus the Sikh army had one thing that the Americans don't. Brains!

This is a new one to me and sounds very interesting. How indeed were the Sikhs able to control the Afghans?
It could not have been done simply by killing thousands of innocent people. More probably the Sikhs simply won the hearts and minds of the people. We most certainly should learn as much about this as possible - it may very well be the solution to our problem in Afghanistan.
One of the main disadvantages we have is in trying for install an elected democratic government on a country and people who really do not want it. The Afghans prefer their own methods of rule and law based upon tribal leaders - it seems to have worked well in the past and it is my belief that no matter what government there is in Kabul the rest of Afghanistan will simply ignore it and carry on with their own way of doing things.

Sikhs ruled and control Afghans !!! hahaha
Most notable Afghan was Abdali - Wrong , Abdali broke the back of Maratha power and crused them
but Real notable Afghan was Sher Shah Suri ,he built Grand Trunk Road ,Invented Postal service , carried revenue reforms , Akbar the Great copied Sher Shah works
Nobody controlled or ruled AFGHANS in History , They are very freedom loving fierce folks , Even british & Russians lost and went and you claim Sikhs defeated them
Sikhs came to power after collapse of Mughal Empire ,Mughals hanged and tore out eye of Holy Sikh Gurus and later were defeated by british (last nail in their coffin)
Read proper history not religious history

You may not be aware of latest situation in Afghanistan.Sikhs are no more controlling Afghanistan. Some where in 8 th Century only Sikhs had some control over there. It was long back.At that time Gandhar(old name of Afghanistan) was part of India and not ruled by Moslems. Now Afghanistan is totally controlled by Muslim fanatics/fundamentalists.No other religion has got any say in that country.Times have changed due to poor infrastructure and hostile and savage Muslim population UK ,USA or USSR or Sikhs will not be able to fight or win there.
