You are a very unique and dynamic (ever changing) person that I think a self help book would demean you. Have you tried reading the New Testament? There is much in those little chapters, that, with a pastor's help (pastors usually help people for free, if I'm not mistaken), can gain you much insight into forgiveness, love, understanding, compassion, kindness.....the list is too long to describe God's ultimate sacrifice for us....for you, if you accept it.
Let love rule, let God.....
I hope this helps, and yes I was abused in front of my daughter by my ex husband. It takes much time to heal the hurt and mistrust that you must feel. Just know that you are not alone, and that you are loved.

You shouldn't even be in a relationship until you spend a year or two processing the last one. What's the matter, that you can't be by yourself to let that process happen? Read "The Dance of Anger".
ANd ask yourself - if he stays with you knowing you haven't dealt with the past AND you are violent - what is wrong with him also?

Try looking at your own LIFE as a BOOK. It has a beginning, middle and end.. Imagine the history of your life and all the good and very bad things that have happened. They are like chapters in your book of life. They are chapters that you have finished and now its time to move on. Now consider that there are still blank chapters to write. So try to learn and grow from the previous chapters but concentrate on the ending!!!!!

Honestly, you shoulw read the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book. The basis of all self-help begins there. It's the 12 step program.
Group therapy is something you should consider.
Remember this one thing; it was not your fault. Not even your fault that you stayed where you were. You did nothing wrong. Forgive yourself.

I don't know of a book to recommend, only a philosophy. Healing comes with time, and your new boyfriend should understand this. As long as you eventually realize that you reached a point beyond your current acceptable stress level, and can reflect and acknowledge this, your new boyfriend should understand. If he doesn't, maybe you should keep looking!

Speaking as a victim of domestic violence I would say it is too soon to be in a relationship if you are acting this way. Step back and give yourself time to find yourself again.
