I use a chocolate glaze. It pours over the cake, a bundt cake is best for this. It's really easy. You'll need:
9 tbl spoons of real butter
9 tbl spoons of cocoa
3 c. of powdered sugar
6 tbl spoons of water
Melt butter in a small sauce pan and add the cocoa. Turn off the heat at this point. Gradually add the powdered sugar and water. Stir till its smooth and then pour over the cake. This will pour smoothly and look slick and shiny even after it cools. This is not a frosting but a glaze. This makes about 1 1/2 c. if I remember correctly. This is also good for a donut glaze. Very rich and I hope you like it.

Four types of icing- Royal Icing, Butter Icing, Fondant Icing, Marsh Mallow Icing
Butter Icing
Take Butter 50gm and Powdered sugar 100gm and mix it well and then put into a piping bag and a nozzle with the shape you want and make your design.
Royal Icing is a hard white icing, made from softly beaten egg whites, icing sugar (powdered sugar), and sometimes lemon juice.
Fondant icing
It is sugar and water cooked to a point, cooled slightly, and stirred .Typically, glucose is added to prevent the syrup from graining while cooking.

My favourite is a ganache: melt chocolate with a few tablespoons of cream, mix well, and voila! Sometimes I whip cream and add the melted chocolate so it's like a mousse topping!
