Hypnosis is a natural psychological process in which critical thinking faculties of the mind are bypassed and a type of selective thinking and perception is established. Although some individuals experience an increase in suggestibility and subjective feelings of an "altered state of consciousness," this is not true for everyone. In fact, some supposed hypnotic indicators and subjective changes can be achieved without relaxation or a lengthy induction by means of simple suggestion or waking hypnosis. Some psychologists and other mental health professionals are concerned that practitioners of hypnosis who are unlicensed health professionals might evoke intense emotions in their clients that they are untrained to handle. These abreactions might occur when spontaneously or purposefully recalling traumatic events or, some believe, spontaneous mental breakdowns. Hypnosis should only be done for therapeutic purposes and if a doctor thinks it is needed.

Yes, I believe in hypnotism. I had 2 sessions with a hypnotist to help with weight loss. It really does work. Some people cannot be hypnotized as deep as others. I now can use the techniques that I learned, to hypnotize myself when I am very stressed. It's a matter of mind over body and it makes you feel wonderful and relaxed afterwards.

I had a serious anxiety problem that was affecting my daily life. After living in the country we moved to the city and i started having panic attacks while driving. Then i talked to my doctor who was treating me with accupuncture for pain about what i could do about the panic attacks. He suggested Hypnosis,so i went along to another doctor who did it. I had 4 sessions after an initial consult where we discussed other things that i was anxious about, spiders and heights and the reasons i was afraid of driving in the city.It was wonderful for me i learnt to relax which in turn made the accupuncture work better and helped my pain management.I have not had panic attacks since and have techniques now to stop them recurring,i am no longer afraid of heights and although i dislike spiders i no longer freeze with absolute terror when i see one (i actually kill them frequently now where i used to ring my dad to come across town to do it for me) For me it helped immensly and i have been functioning without anxiety ,panic attcks and phobia since my family is amazed at the difference. It doesn't work for everyone though but at least there are no side effects as there could be with medications. So give it a try and see if it can help you,it won't hurt.
