Yes thats right, currently only the saudi royal family is the custodian and caretaker of the holy cities, though for a long time now, countries like malaysia, brunei, tanzania and pakistan are asking for the rights of caretakership to rotate amongst muslim nations, which seems logical also.

Right now, they are the strongest and most practicing Muslim country, so why not.

It can be done globally when all the Muslims of the world are one.

Its the duty of All muslims to take care of all the Holy Places. Even if those places belongs to non-muslim, still its the duty of Muslims to protect those.

yes, and Iran wants to share it so bad. i beleive that all muslim governments shoud have at least contribuation of making decision in expanding or changing any thing in those places.
