Because they use it as an excuse to justify their real reason.
Just like when athiests killed 100 million people in the name of communism in the previous century.

Because the Prince of the power of the air is in control of this world .very few actually have the living Spirit of Gods will,guidance and power in them.
they don't have true faith
true faith can move a mountain.
faith opens one to the spirit , where all things or possible.
I hate to live in this world sometimes,
Its so sad to see the hurt people do to each other.
I cried watching a movie where it showed the little baby parts being taken from the mothers womb after an abortion, I hurt when I see whales and dolphins killed,I pray for the Israelis and the Palestinians and all those suffering in the world.
Prayer is all I can do.
But I did a project personally alone with no help.in South Carolina that's saving about a life a day.for 18 years now.

I have done a few things to make some difference ,
But most people don't want to bother with anything to help people, everyone is different,
Its not enough what I can do, or you can do. it will never be enough till people find the spirit within.

Well, first of all, describe when people have used God as an excuse to murder/kill.....except the middle ages when the Crusades took place, the Catholic church used this tool to make a place for itself in the political realm. When the US was born, it was under the Constitution that people would have freedom from such Catholic rulership, like separation of Church from State. Today, people mean that law to be different, like I can't pray with my child before I send him to school, unless I do it at home first. Educate yourself, but I am with you on this one,,,,,the Catholics I know seem to do everything like having tatoos, drinking, smoking, having as many babies as they can, and whatever else, so long as they go to mass on sunday. LOL.....like that will save them from what they do all week long...... I don't think so
I am with you, God does not teach hatred, only love, read the first four books of the New Testament, Jesus preaches more about Love than anything else. "If you truly love Me, then you will love your neighbor"

Oh well, it's not something new you know, they always did and they always will (there have been killers in every Faith as you may know;); basically because they get brainwashed and become puppets in the ends of religious leaders who keep the crowds ignorant, feeding them only with a bunch of absurd doctrines, in order to gain more and more power...as long as there'll be religion (any religion) on this planet, there'll be wars. God is not the uthor of catastrophes and calamities. God always bless and not curse.People use God as an excuse to kill other people and do other horrible things because they are ignorant and normally these people arenot close to God`s heart because the heartbeat of God is love

disclaimer: I am a strong atheist.
But to be fair, I must say people through the ages have found many excuses to kill each other. But agree with your point insofar that a god of love and compassion is hard to rhyme with the crusades, jihads, inquisitions, etc. etc.

Religion defines a lot of people's lives, and is easy to use it as an excuse for an act of aggression or whatnot. Since the concept of 'God" can never be fully understood, it is a reasonable reason to fight and die for something, if they believe strongly enough in the cause.

ummm.... people use many excuses for killing and hurting others. We claim killing in the name of Justice, Democracy, Right to privacy (abortion), Love, One's country, etc.
