Have you sacrificed your "favorite" habit for a week without using it, doing it, eating it, etc?

How was your experience after sacrificing them?

Do you realize something after you don't do your habit?

Any reflection would do.

My roommate in college was a Catholic and she gave up chocolate for lent. To make her feel better, I gave up pizza. Very difficult week, to tell you the truth, college is all about pizza and chocolate.

I wasn't saved at the time, so I didn't really feel and connection or closeness to God for doing it, it just made her feel better cause she had someone to commiserate with.

I got rid of my Led Zeppelin CD collection, along with Ozzy Osbourne, Blue Oyster Cult, and some others because of the satanic lyrics in the music I was shown. My experience was that the truth hurt at first, because these were some of my favorite groups, but I am happy to be rid of satan's music. This habit is one gone forever. I am a born again Christian and love my walk with Jesus instead.

I occasionally fast, & I have given up coffee & caffenated drinks. The Coffee was a major addiction which I felt compelled to give up, & not eating for a couple of days focused my mind on Jesus when I was struggling with some things. It did help me to realise just how controlling our stomachs are, and how much we need to depend upon God. I feel sacrificing things important to us is vital because ultimately we need to be willing to give up everything for Jesus. But we also need to do it for the right reason, not works, but out of gratitude to God.

Today (tonite officially) I have sacrificed my grail of the sacred elixir coffee... So far so good. I am drinking blueberry juice as a supplement... 'tis weird, honestly. I am not used to the absence of caffeine for my graveyard shifts. I am also recovering from a serious indulgence of green eggs and red fire.

I have fasted from food on several occasions seeking either God's direction, favor, or even a closer revelation. These are "average" reactions:

1 day - spiritual discipline but not much more
2 days - same as 1 just a little more intense
3-40 days - discipline, answers, etc

But weather you fast from food or anything else - for 1 day or several - anytime you pursue God, He responds!

James 4:8 (NLT)
Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you...

I quit smoking like 5 years ago. I started to smoke a tobacco pipe like a year ago but have quit that too like two months ago.

I love smoking pipe tobacco but I was starting to inhale the smoke and so I quit. Maybe I will smoke my pipe again in the future but I don't want to inhale ever again.

Anyway, tobacco is my habit. I love it but I know it's bad for me so I stay away from it. I want to live a healthy and long natural life, that it the motivation to keep me from smoking.

When we fast, we don't drink milk don't eat meat or chocolate......
after that we find that it was not a hard thing to be sacrificed.

Truth to tell, I have never had a good enough reason to sacrifice anything before, so nothing from me, sorry.
