Good question Keith! Holyfield is a warrior and always in great condition and ready to fight. Gene Tunney never lost a fight as a heavyweight and decisioned the great Dempsey twice with his outstading boxing ability. Tunney had a good jab and also outstanding footwork. I believe that Holyfield would have his moments in this fight but in the end "The Fighting Marine" would capture a close decision victory.

HOLYFIELD - W 38 (KO's25) TF 50 - W pct 79% - KO pct 52% - wins over Dokes, Tyson[2], Qawi{2}, Bowe, Foreman, Moorer, Holmes, Douglas and P. Thomas - KO'ed by Bowe and Toney (Holyfield was 40) - #77 ranked puncher - #22 ranked fighter
Won 1984 bronze Olympic medal at Light Hy wt
Great chin/heart/will - He like Ali and Holmes fought and defeated some of the great fighters of his day.
TUNNEY - W 83 (KO's 49) TF 88 - W pct 94% - KO pct 56% - wins over Gibbons, Dempsey[2], Levinsky, Carpentier and Greb[3] - #30 ranked fighter
Good defensive fighter and a good boxing skills
At Light wt or Hy wt, I pick Holyfield to win a 15 rd split decision. he was a better all-around fighter.

I think the fighting Marine (Tunney) would be able to outbox the Real Deal. Tunney was a master boxer who was as cerebral as heavyweights get. His quickness and footwork was very good as he was able to thwart impressive swarming fighters like Jack Dempsey and Harry Greb. He used a solid jab to as well to keep his opponents checked. Holyfield was a couragous fighter yes, but often would cost him (either a ko loss or running out of stamina). If Tunney keeps his cool, he would beat a tired Holyfield by decision 12 or 15 rounds.

Holyfield is it! Tunney's obviously bigger, but Evander outfought a lot of bigger guys like Riddick Bowe, Lewis (the first fight) and even an old George Foreman during his time. Holyfield also has a lot more in his arsenal than Tunney - speed, combinations, defense and courage. With his unmatched fighting heart and true "warrior" spirit, he'd surely take it to Gene Tunney and outbox him for a unanimous decision win.

Holyfield - too well rounded, and a tough S.O.B. to boot.
