I am confused as every person at Home Affairs tells me different tings. He needs to be able to work here and we will be getting married in a month's time. I just want to know what documents and forms he needs to do this.

The document used to be called a 'Permenant residence Permit'
I was issued one in 1966 when I went there with my parents. I subsequently returned but the permit number is still stamped in my UK passport.
Perhaps the SA embassy will help you with this question - but don't hold your breath.

Dont know. Most SA women i know marry for money and only to get a visa to england so they can stay for ever bring the family over and ruin our lovley country. So what the NHS is free dosent mean people from africa have to use it. i know this taxi driver and he was working at hethrow, all afiacan wemon only know how to say is hospital. and so what they need a heart transplant dosent mean you get to the top of the waiting list. while you wait others die!!!

sure you a very nice person tho ;)
