I agree totally with what the user "cupcake" has said. I am a cashier at a major retailer and I can tell you how excited kids get when they get to pick out their own things, especially clothes and toys. Let your son pick out his own stuff and maybe he'll be proud to show it off....and keep it on!!

Take him shopping. Make it a special day. Tell him he's a big boy now and big boys get to choose and buy their own clothes. Is there a particular character he likes? ie: Elmo, Wiggles etc. Let him choose the clothes he wants, give him the money so he can pay at the register and let him carry the bag. This will make him feel proud and special wearing clothes that he bought and he won't want to take them off.

Good luck! I have a 3 year old who prefers to be naked whenever possible. Our rule is that if it's only our immediate family, he can undress inside the house. He must have clothes on when someone is over or if we're going out anywhere. If he gets cold, he'll ask for clothes or a blanket. I'm guessing that he'll grow out of this "naked phase" as he gets older. His sisters all went through it and now they prefer to be dressed!

Wow, Another mom going through what I'm going through. I have a 4 year old that Never wears clothes. I just let him go, I gave up trying to keep a shirt on him. He'll go days wearing nothing but his little boxers. I figure he must just be hot, and I thought to myself how I wouldn't like it if I was hot constantly and someone told me to put clothes on.

there is no way my son who is almost 4 will leave a piece of clothing on if he does not want it on. upto when he was 3 he left anything i put on, after that he never wears pants or shorts at home, only when we go out of course. he doenst even like pj's to sleep, he is fine with just a longs leeve shirt if its cold and i put an a -shirt underneath to keep him warmer.

so when he gets cold ,dont worry he will put them on. or be a lil tougher with him.

My 20 month old takes off his PJ's when he gets up and often runs around the house without his pants and diaper!
I started putting oneses on him, which he can't take off, I also give him draw string pants, which I tie up and he can't undo.

Just let him know that you want him to keep his clothes on, point out that Mommy and Daddy wear their clothes, brothers & sisters, etc..

Most little ones go through this phase...I think it's sort of a revert back to when they came out of the womb..around the house I just let my daughter do her own thing. However she was instructed to leave her clothes on out in public. The compromise worked for me.

Consistency. If he takes his clothes off at home and you allow him to run around naked then he feels it's alright to do so wherever he may be. So, even at home don't give in if you want him dressed then make him keep his clothing on. My mother had one heck of a time getting me to stay dressed. I would sit in my car seat and by the time we arrived at our destination I would have my clothes off. She said it took patience and consistency to finally get me to keep them on. Plus, I think kids grow out of this phase once they start school and are around other children.
