I have a job, but part-time only goes so far. I pay for my insurance and I use my parent's car (dad's)...im 18 and I really wanted a car after my birthday. I ask my parents to help, but they say I have to make downpayment and all... what should I do?

Oh...and I do go to school still. Idk...i just felt left out cuz some of my friends have family finance issues and they STILL have their own cars... o well... guess I'll have to do everything myself

You didn't say you were attending any sort of college( and getting decent grades),otherwise I would understand why your only working part time. If that was the case I couldn't see why your parents wouldn't offer or agree to pay a down payment on a vehicle for you. Unless your parents were paying for college tuition and boarding for you.
Otherwise if your not interested in higher education at this time I suggest you acquire full- time employment and save up for a decent down payment for a new-used car, used car, or new car. I personally would be happy just for at least 2-3yrs with a get me A to B car.

Are you in school? Is that why you are only working part time? If not, you need to get a full time job. Start saving towards a down payment. Once your parents see that you are saving, maybe they will be more likely to help out.

ah it's a hard life dude, but deal...iv got parents just like that, i only just started worken part-time, and let me tell yea, it sucks. they're never gonna pay for my sh*t, but i dont expect them too.
the car i buy will be my own...why should my dad go and spend whatever amount on something he will never use?
even when i start uni, ill be left with a massive hex fee, but ill deal with it...its my life and if anything, i'll learn how to budget & spend my money more wisely than if my parents paid for it all.
for smaller items(like my ipod) we split it 50:50, but for bigger thing like my new phone, my car(when i get it) etc. , i'll cop the full cost.
just deal wif it dude, yea life is hard n yea u want some wheels n all, but ur better off walking and taking public transport now than suffering financially by buying something you can't afford.plus you'll learn how the real world works, not the world where parents pay for it all.
f*ck the rich brats who get it all, being served on hand and foot is def not the way to go

How much do you have to spend? If they're just asking you to make the downpayment (25%) I say do it.
If you can't afford a car, then don't get one. Don't live outside your means you'll be sorry later.

Save your money until you can afford to buy your own car, with cash or at least 50% down. Don't tie yourself down with an auto loan you're better off using your dad's car in the meantime.

You're 18, legally an adult now. I'd suggest you get a full time job, a budget in place, and take some responsibility for doing things on your own.

here's the thing. there's lots of things more important than owning a gas guzzling automobile. for transpo look into a small scooter.
i think it's nice that the parents are willing to let you live in their house. and if you're still in school that's fine. if not in school, why you still sponging off your parents?

show some responsibility, save up for a while youre 18, work overtime proove to them you a responsible and ask them to help you after you save up 2,000 bucks

work a little harder. Not everything is freee........Can't cry about it, so just work until you get one and when you get rich and your parents ask for a house, tell them the ole story of you not getting a car when you wanted one....Works just fine.....
