Because the truth hurts.
And feeling bad and being put down are two different things. I never put down Atheists, I simply disagree with them and try to share my faith. And I've seen a LOT of atheists "put down" Christians...

I don't think it's OK to make anyone feel bad. Neither should anyone be put down. The religious people that you speak of also get put down. I'm sure you realize that. My savior Jesus teaches me to return a curse with a blessing. I try to remember that when I get put down for my faith.
Everyone likes to think their own little group of people are the only ones who have got it right. That is just human nature. People need to open their eyes and view those outside their own with compassion. This is What Jesus taught. God Bless. Peace.

Umm, I must have missed whatever you are speaking of. I think you are mature enough to handle being here, right? Are you insulting believer's with your questions and answers and then crying wolf? I hope not. I have no idea what you mean by caste system but you are in charge of your own feelings and actions and feelings of self worth. If the Word of God makes you feel bad, GOOD! If you become miserable in your sins with out God, GOOD! That awful discontent is called conviction of your sins. There's only one cure for it my friend. You pray a sincere prayer "God, if you are really real, will you come into my heart, forgive me of all my sins,(pride and rebellion and blasphemy are likely in that list, just name them off to Him) and let me feel your presence and know for sure you are there? In Jesus precious holy name I pray, Amen." I am certain God will meet you there and kindly forgive you for rejecting and mocking Him up to this point and time in your life.
Oh, and there's no "putting up with" but only a community with free speech and hopefully enough respect for one another to not abuse community standards in the process. Tolerance is a two way street. For Christians I would remind them the Bible verse that tribulation worketh patience and in your patience possess ye your souls. Patience is an excellent virtue for all humanity no matter what you believe. Let's all exercise that more!

It's definitely not ok. Christians are never supposed to ridicule non-believers and should NEVER tell anyone they are going to hell. Everyone deserves hell, but we have a way out, and christians are supposed to be showing love, whether you believe them or not, and trying to win you to Christ with love, not hate. I think it's horrible because if nothing else, it will just push you away. I'm sorry and hope you know that just like any other religion, there are some who don't act the way they should and are not a representation of the entire religion.

I'm sorry.... but aren't you whinning just a little bit?
Atheist are not the persecuted minority on this cite. By far, atheists spend more time "putting down" believers simply for their faith. Believers are called ignorant, blind, caustic, hateful, etc...
If you are being made to feel bad by someone then it's your own fault, nobody can make you feel bad about yourself with out your permission.

believers use much of their feelings to judge right from wrong. if i were a really nice person and i'll slap their faces, they'll think i'm bad. they'll believe i'm bad. but they don't know the truth. that's what the non believers come in. they study first the reason why did i slap their faces. non believers seek the facts first before judging.

Let me insert my 2 cents.
America was founded on faith in God and invited ALL to enter this great nation regardless of faith & beliefes.
There are still those of us proud to say we are Christians and defend profussley the things that made our nation great. Just because a handful of non-belivers try to destroy that which is proven to be good a Christian has a obligation to correct that which is bad and if that offends you I could care less.

Because of lack of self-confidence; some of them feel the need to insult us so that they can feel stronger than they really are;) The worst is when a person you consider close to you, turns out to be a real bigot and doesn't spare insults...that hurts...it really does...About all the others, well, they can say whatever they like: as long as they're not people I care about, it really doesn't bother me;)

It would be better if everyone would keep their religious views a secret. People can be good and nice regardless if they are religious or not.
