No one person started WW1. It was a buildup "isms"of Militarism, Nationalism, and Colonialism. Nations had big armies, strong national pride, and the only thing they wanted was more control over resources in Africa and Asia.

The assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was simply a catalyst to start the explosion, so to speak, of the isms.
