Im 18 years old. 249lbs. 5ft 5. If i took a exercise plan of an hour of toning exercises and 2 hrs of brisk walking a day and also housework etc. How much weight could i hope to lose and in how much time if i kept to a VLCD of 500-800calories a day spread out over 5-6 meals?
I have heard both that when your body goes into starvation mode, it saves all the calories it can for survival, but i have also heard that when there is a shortage the body will use excess calories etc for energy and to live on.I would appreciate also if anyone could clairfy that for me.
[Please do not waste my time or yours by posting that this is unhealthy, or a bad idea etc.I think im able to make my own decisions about my own body and i just want a hypothetical answer to the above question.]
Any useful advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you =)

You REALLY shouldn't go below 1200 calories per day; it's extremely unhealthy and can land you in the hospital pretty fast. I'm not an idiot saying this; I'm 19 and weighed 223 pounds at the beginning of this month. I changed the way I eat and the level of activity I do, and I'm down to 217! Try cutting out trigger foods (mine are bread and cheese) and using swaps and better for you recipes like Weight Watchers zero point soup, vegetarian substitutes for non-lean meats like burgers, hot dogs, ground beef, and things like that. The best advice I can give you is do lots of research about weight loss, exercise, and dietary changes. This is about changing your lifestyle and being healthy, not crash dieting to fit a size or image. You really should see your doctor as well as a dietitian to make sure your healthy you plan is safe and is the most effective for you. With everything working for you, you can safely lose about 2 pounds per week. My goal is to lose 60 pounds by December, and I'm already part way there. Keep yourself healthy first, no matter what. Good luck!

having 500 - 800 calories a day, would make you have headaches and your body would be too weak to have the strenght to do exercise in the first place.
calorie intake of 1200 a day is what you should aim for.
Its true about the starvation mode, your body, goes into reverse and thinks im not getting fed, proven, in reasearch,
a healthy weightloss is 1lb to 2lb a week, Following the weightwatchers diet, aims at this and it really does work
in 7 months i lost 3 stone, you can pick up weightwatchers books on ebay, the shopping guide, is a good one as it lists all the
foods in the supermarkets, and gives point values,
if you are 12 stone 22 points a day you are allowed
10 stone 20 points a day, the weight every week adds up and before you know it all your clothes are hanging off you,

if you want to lose a lot of weight quick do the adkins diet. you are already dropping into starvation mode so you may as well be able to eat even if its all fat. it will work well for most and especially if your looking to drop more than 20 pounds, my body really responded to it well and even though it was too tough to follow totally i alternated this with low calorie/fat and in the past 2 years i managed to drop 65 pounds and also i am nothing but muscle because i took a really physical job. this was the best thing i could do for myself the muscle gain is what i know is keeping the weight off. also remember not to be too hard on yourself on the scale if you weight train, i was over 200 pounds size 16 if i sucked it in real good, now i am 135 and a size 4 nobody can believe i weigh this much as a size 4 and i often have to get on the scale to show them i am not lying also i love the muscle because as you loose the weight your suprised how awesome your body looks under all that stuff kinda like the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop nice treat to reward the long tough work.

Your body will go into starvation mode, yes, but eventually it will get out of that and start eating away at all the fat and the organs. In all honesty though, and I know because I've lost a lot of weight, if you just work out and eat about 1200 calories a day you can expect to lose about 15 pounds a month which is more than you would on your VLCD.
Just facts! Good luck to ya!

Many people think that starving themselves will lead to fast weight loss. It means cutting the total caloric intake to less than 50% of what the body requires. The body responds by using its own reserves to provide energy, and these reserves are not just the body`s extra fat. Initially, glycogen stores are broken down for energy. Glycogen is the storage form of carbohydrate in our body. There is little glycogen available so this energy source is depleted during the first hours of starvation. When glycogen is used, water is released which is noticed as a drop in weight on the scale. These stores are quickly replenished when more eating and more calories is resumed which is noticed by an increase in weight.

I was 16yrs old when I went on a 800 calorie diet and exercised for 1 hour every day with high impact aerobics without any diet pills. After awhile I went down to less calories. I started in February and by July I lost around 95 pounds. My hair got thin because of the stress. I knew it wasn't healthy but it worked for me. It took a little time for my skin to shrink because I lost the weight so fast. I hope this helps. Good luck!

If the weight is only around your belly and hips 20 llbs might be too much to lose all at once? Try smaller goals and make sure this is what you want and need and not for anyone else. Im alarmed because you stated it needs to be done before school, that is not enough time to lose that weight. But try this, make it a daily routine to take a 3 mile walk, it should only take and hour and if this is too much try to split it up in 1 mile at breakfast, lunch and dinner. ...What do you find yourself constantly overeating? Stop eating it.

Only eat when you are hungry. I mean really hungry not board hungry. and drink lots of water, walk a lot protein shakes help fight off hunger. The more active you are the more you will loose I lost 35 lbs in 3 weeks BUT I was walking 5 to 10 miles a day at work and worked 55 to 60hrs a week I don't recommend trying to work yourself to death like I do but park as far away from the mall or the store as you can get. it helps too ( I eat 1 meal a day and let myself have 2snacks a day if I need them the meal is a good one like roast beef w/ mashed taters green beans and mac & cheese or a rice dish I don't stuff myself just eat until I'm full eat fruits and veggies for a snack. Here is the hardest part STAY AWAY from SODA POP!!! even diet has 1/4 of your daily in take of calories in it per can.Stay away from things that are sweetened w/ high fructose corn syrup. It tricks you body in to thinking that you are not getting enough sugar so you don't get full. good luck to you I hope you find something to help you everyone is diffrent so what works for me might not work for you. It's not going to be easy by no means I've learned that it doesn't take much to pack it on but it's hard as hell to burn it off.

I have read don't eat less than 1200 calories- and I know that wt watchers has a great program that works- and teaches what your body needs and learing what a serving and portion really is-
Exercise is great and burns calories and firms- I agree the bod goes into the starvation mode- and we get fatter when eating normal-D
