The "sweat" under his chin may just be drool. The fact that the cat is drinking excessively is what worries me. I hope I am wrong but usually when a cat drinks like he can't seem to get enough (and cats are notorious for not wanting to drink water too much), it is a sign that the cat has liver or kidney issues. Best take your kitty to the vet becuase if caught early, such things can be treated with proper medications. By the way, THANK YOU for rescuing this poor tom cat. He came to you becuase he knows he needs help. Don't let him down. A stray cat once came right inside my room and looked at me. I was in ahurry to catch a class and I thought to myself, "well, I'll just allow the poor thing to stay till I get back and then I'll see what to do with her." When I got home 10 hrs later, the stray cat was dead. I was distressed so I took the cat to my vet who looked at her. She was pregnant but all the kittens inside her were dead. Vet said she probably tried to give birth but did not have the strength to push the kittens out... the kittens died and that poisoned her. I felt SO BAD that I did not attend to the cat right away. It was uncanny that she came to me! Maybe "word" had gotten around the neighborhood among the cats that there was a "cat lady" in the grey house... and I let the kitty down :(

Hey,
Well, the first thing you need to do is to make sure that the sweat is actually sweat. I could just be from the water or it could be drool. Take the cat and wipe it's mouth of any foamy substances and water. Check the color of it's gums and make sure that they are a pink in color. If they are white in color take the cat to the vet a.s.a.p. You could also check the refill time on the gums. It is like when you push your finger on your skin and it turns a different color. If when you do this and there is no change then that is a really bad sign. I would take the cat to a vet. If it is to late for that they do have Vets on call 24/7. Or look in your phone book and look under Vet Hospitals not clinics. Call them first and voice your concerns to them. They will tell you what you should do. Good luck.

Chances are most likely that this is not sweat but drool. There are many reasons why this could happen. Also sounds like he may be in some distress.
I do have a question though. How do you know that this cat is "abandoned and abused"? Sounds like you know more about this cat than you've posted.
Your best option is to take this cat to the veterinarian immediately and have him checked. He could have diseases and even communicable diseases that could spread to you and your family. Seriously, I wouldn't wait another day to have this cat thoroughly checked over by a qualified veterinarian.

Hi there,
I think you really need to get your cat to the vets as soon as possible. No advice anyone can give you on here can substitute for a trained professionals who can see the cat in the flesh.
Often times when cats have kidney problems they will up their intake of water. It's definitely something a vet needs to assess though.
Is your cat also urinating a lot? It can be another sign of kidney failure.
I think it's wonderful that you are looking after a stray cat, good on you.
Have a look at this website, see if it can help you, but try and take your kitty to the vets as soon as possible.
Best wishes,
Heidi.

Ok! calm down.
bring him to your local vet. theyll know what to do.
If theres no chance of survival its ok, cause you gave him another chance and as it seems you looked after him well.
i once found a cat in a bin. I took her to the vet who said she had been poisoned and that all i could do was to bring her home and make her comfortable. three weeks later she was alive and well minus the pointy parts of her ears! this is a defence mechanism used by cats so that they wont die. i still have her today! therefore theres still hope

Its drool, not sweat. He could have something caught in his mouth, a problem with his teeth, been poisoned.
Advise from a vet is best. Its paramount that you have him seen ASAP.

It is so sweet that you are caring for this poor kitty but it needs to go to the vet ASAP. He may have been poisoned or ate something poisonous.
