Catechism is the teachings and beliefs of the Catholic Church. All denominations and major religions have writing which define their beliefs. It has nothing to do with imposing a religion. No one can make a person believe anything unless the person gives up the will of the sub-conscience. That is why America exist today and the Islamic religion exist and Judism and Buddhaismn ect. and all faiths. One believes because of faith, not doctrine.

It is necessary to obey the presbyters who are in the Church - those who, as I have shown, possess the succession from the Apostles. For those presbyters, together with the succession of the bishops, have received the certain gift of truth, according to the good pleasure of the Father. But we should hold in suspicion others who depart from the primitive succession and assemble themselves together in any place whatsoever. For they are either heretics or perverse minds, or else they are schismatics who are puffed up and self-pleasing.... Therefore, it behooves us to keep aloof from all such persons and to adhere to those who, as I have already observed, hold the doctrine of the Apostles." St. Irenaeus ("Against All Heresies," c. 180 A.D.)

Brainwashing by another name... Catholics use it on children and claim remarkable success rates when they are given an early enough start. By the third grade, the kid could be made to believe just about anything - like, even that there is a real God.

POST SCRIPT to Nell:
Give it up, Nell.

You know very well why we all care. Religion is dangerous in the wrong hands and it always seems to find that there are plenty of wrong hands around to wield its power and wag the tails of its fleecy little flocks.

We're also interested in having neighbors who are intelligent enough to think for themselves. You know, it isn't much fun making up excuses for a world full of knuckle heads who can't tell the difference between Bible bull-chit and honest to goodness Shineola.
