Catechism comes from from the Greek word katkhismos which means to teach by word of mouth

Catechism is:
+ A body of fundamental principles or beliefs
+ A book giving a brief summary of the basic principles of Christianity; here is a link to the Catechism of the Catholic Church: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/index.htm
+ An archaic term for Catholic religious education
