No. Some societies do not even know about the ten commandments and still condemn murder because it means taking the life of another human being.

Even biblically speaking, murder was condemned long before the 10 commandments were given.

The moral and social repercussions of murder were well known before the ten commandments are said to have been written. The ancient Egyptians had laws against murder thousands of years before the birth of Christ.

Society condemns murder because it deprives an individual of his right to life. I suspect religion condemns it for the same reason.

Well, God said those without the law are without excuse because God gave them a conscience. Even heathen tribes who have never heard the Word of God have rules of conduct about murder and community justice and morals(Cannabals excluded! They usually don't eat their own though!). Murder was one of the first sins committed you know. We know it's wrong whether it's on the lawbooks as being legal or not. (i.e. abortion, euthanasia) Every human is born to desire a sense of justice in this world and a desire to survive. It's just common sense to realize that if everyone was allowed to murder one another, there would be no survivors!

Murder is murder!!!! One of the commandments also is, thou shalt not commit Adultery, but people do it ALL the time. I've never heard of anyone sitting in jail for committing it, unless you were the one who murdered the the one who was doing the cheating.

Actually.. Jesus trimmed those 10 commandments down to only two in the New Testament...

1. Put no other god's before Him

2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Christ said, there is no greater love than to lay your life down for your friend.

Would you die for your friends?

Yes society has condemed murder, But it was God himself who imposed the first death penalty. (adam and the apple, noah, soddem and gomorrah,...) this may sound harsch, There is a fine line between the two.....I think they should extend the death penalty to include serial rapists, child molesters, :( sorry Micheal) and those who frequently are in car wrecks because they get drunk and irresponsible and a death or a serious injury resulted.....Maybe encourage belly slitting like the samouri and get it over real quick and stop wasting my tax money :)

Could be. But I think society condemns it because it creates conflict. Everyone's best interest is peace, and murder disturbs the peace. When you disturb peace, everything goes insane, and there is no control. So its better just to nip the problem in the bud.
