Since you'd be the spinster, dress a little older and very conservative. Wear a mumu (sp?) too, or better yet, "Mom Pants." They were on an episode of SNL... They're denim with a high elastic waist.

One, if it's not too late, change the language. "Singles" is better. "Spinster" is a very old word. "Bachelorette" is just plain silly. If you're a guest, and not in charge of the party, nevermind. I'd say wear what makes you feel that you look good, whatever it is. Something comfortable. Not sweats -- not THAT comfortable. I'd say a feminine dress, or a great shirt and casual pants.

Holy cow, this sounds like it could be fun!

My first thought is to wear the least fashionable clothing you can find. I like the idea of dressing like a cat lady. Think old crabby librarian or maybe nun.

For men how about flannel, camo or blaze orange? Hunting gear would work well. Or maybe you could go to the opposite extreme and be the guy trying too hard to pick up dames at the bar at a Ramada near the airport. You know, open shirt, too much jewelry, brag about your 'vette (Chevette) and tell everybody your work is so secret you cannot talk about it.

Get T-shirts/sweatshirts with the greek letters of a fraternity. If those won't be able to be got here upon then something from the Abercrombie and Fitch catalog could probably do. I do exactly like the previous answer of a toga, yet on condition that it is likewise a toga social gathering. which would be humorous the two way.
