why did the dvd written in data format can't work in Telivision dvd player?

I've written a dvd through dvd writter .when i like to play in Telivision it does n't play. what's the reason behind it?

If you want to record movies, record them in dvd-video format, not data format. DVD players depend on special index files that are only created in video format.
